Getting There & Hotels

Cornet Bay Retreat Center sits at the eastern edge of Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island. Despite being an island, you'll drive the whole way: Whidbey is connected to the mainland by Deception Pass Bridge, a 1935 steel arch bridge that spans the churning tidal narrows it's named for.

From Seattle-Tacoma International Airport · About 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Head north on I-5, take exit 230 toward Burlington / Highway 20, weave through some roundabouts (2nd exit for both) and cross the bridge and turn left on Cornet Bay Rd — the entrance to the camp is just 0.4 miles further and on your left.
Oak Harbor · 15 minutes · The closest town to the venue, with plenty of budget-friendly hotels (e.g. The Coachman Inn) and all the basics.
La Conner · 30 minutes · A small, walkable arts town on the Swinomish Channel with excellent restaurants, galleries, museums, and a river waterfront. Several boutique hotels.
Coupeville · 30 minutes · A charming historic town on Penn Cove, known for its mussels, waterfront wharf, and Victorian architecture. One hotel still has availabilty.

Recommendations

Skagit and Island county are true gems. There are still so many places we have on our visit wishlist for the area, but we hope our tips below are a helpful start for your sightseeing planning! All spots here are shown on the map with even more details.

La Conner · A must stop for visitors! Has a new knitting bar! If you book a boat tour of Deception Pass, you can get picked up here. We love the 'Dirty Biter' dog statue tribute and endearing plaquards. Shout out to Alison for discovering biter. Also home of the late Tom Robbins.
Coupeville · If you visit, snag some delicious pizza and cocktails at Goldie's and watch the sunset from the upper level, or have a game of ping-pong in the town park.
Edison · Further out but has excellent food and quirky shops: Tweets (limited hours) serves huge rustic farm-to-table brunch, Breadfarm is a artisanal bakery, stop by Bow Sanctuary for a sauna session (book ahead) and of course venture up to Taylor Shelfish farms for a casual oyster-eating experience with breathtaking views.
Skagit Valley · The snow geese will be covering the fields in the winter months, so unfortunately they will miss our wedding. But you can still stop by Christianson's Nursery ("more than a nursery") and admire the beautiful lowlands.

Registry

We just bought our first home and couldn't be more excited!
Because we hope to furnish it with secondhand finds (maybe even things we bring back from our honeymoon in Japan), we don't have a registry.
